November 18 marks the 82nd anniversary of the release of the first official Mickey Mouse cartoon video 'Steamboat Willie'.Steamboat Willie (1928) was an animated short released on November 18, 1928. Eventhough another cartoon Plane Crazy was released six months earlier to Steamboat Willie, Walt Disney celebrates the birthday of Mickey Mouse in commomeration with the release of Steamboat Willie on November 18.

Steamboat Willie has voted #13 of The 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time. The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, maintained by the Library of Congress. It was also the first cartoon to feature synchronized sound.
